According to the European Commissioner for trade Cecilia Malmström, Brussels is preparing a list of American products for the supply of which will be introduced compensatory duties.
No one in the EU does not know whether the US will introduce duties on cars from Europe, but the European Commission is preparing a list with American products, the supply of which can be introduced reciprocal duties. This was stated by the European Commissioner for trade Cecilia Malmström in an interview published on Sunday the Agency DPA.
“No one knows” if the White House is really driving duties on European cars, she said. “In case they are introduced, we are preparing a list with American products for the supply of which compensation duties will be introduced,” Malmström said.
The European Commissioner said that the US imports annually cars and automotive components from Europe in excess of €50 billion, she noted that the scale of the response will depend on the damage caused by the EU and will comply with WTO rules.
The US Department of Commerce in June, on the instructions of President Donald Trump announced the beginning of an investigation designed to determine whether the threat to American national security supplies to the country of cars and components from other States. The Trump administration considered the possibility of introducing 25% duties on cars supplied to the US from Europe.
