BRUSSELS -The European Commission (EC) has established a working group on relations with the United Kingdom, which will begin its work on 16 November, regardless of the fate of the agreement on the terms of Britain’s exit from the European Union. EC reported on Tuesday.
“The Board of the European Commission decided today to establish a Working group on relations with the United Kingdom as part of the General Secretariat of the EC. Michel Barnier has been appointed the head of the task force, the EC said in a statement. – Today’s decision comes into force on November 16, 2019-regardless of developments in the UK. It was agreed upon in close coordination between the President [of the European Commission Jean-Claude] Juncker and the President-elect Ursula von der Leyen.”
As explained by the EC, the working group “will coordinate all the work of the European Commission on all strategic, operational, legal and financial issues related to “Brexit.” “She will be responsible for the completion of the exit negotiations, as well as the work of the EC in preparing for a no-deal ” Brexit” and future negotiations on the relationship with the UK,” the document says.
