The European Commission (EC) has prepared a list of the US the import of which duties would be introduced and submitted it to EU member States. This was reported on Friday by the DPA Agency, citing sources in the community.
According to him, the measures cover the import of goods from the US worth about €20 billion. In the European Commission said that it is planned to hold consultations with EU companies that may suffer from the introduction of the similar US duties.
The US President Donald Trump confirmed on April 9 plans to introduce duties on goods from the EU in response to EU subsidies to the aircraft manufacturer Airbus. The corresponding statement he published on his Twitter page, adding that this measure will affect imports from the EU in the amount of $11 billion.
The office of the US representative for trade negotiations Robert Lighthizer on Monday published a list of the EU products, which can be imposed duties as a response to EU subsidies to its aviation industry. The WTO appellate body last year confirmed the decision of the panel of arbitrators in 2016 that the European Union and its four member States – France, Germany, Spain and the UK – illegally subsidized Airbus. At the same time, at the end of March, the WTO Appellate body confirmed the conclusion of the arbitration group from 2017 that the US subsidized the production of Boeing aircraft to the detriment of the economic interests of Airbus through tax breaks. This dispute in the WTO between the US and the EU has been going on since 2004.
