Melinda Gates began preparing for divorce from Microsoft founder Bill Gates almost two years ago, the Wall Street Journal newspaper reports, citing knowledgeable sources and documents.
According to their information, Ms. Gates has been discussing the divorce with lawyers since at least 2019, contacting several law firms at once. According to the newspaper, the couple did not specify the reason for the divorce, but sources said that Ms. Gates, among other things, was concerned about her husband’s contacts with the now-deceased banker Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of trafficking minors for the purpose of their sexual exploitation.
Ms. Gates repeatedly called the consultants in October 2019 after media reports surfaced about Gates ‘ meetings with Epstein, according to documents obtained by the publication. As the newspaper notes, a representative of Gates said back in 2019 that the Microsoft founder discussed charity with Epstein, but he regrets these meetings and considers them a mistake.
Representatives of Bill and Melinda Gates declined to comment on the reasons for the divorce, the newspaper writes.
Earlier it was reported that on Monday, Bill Gates and his wife Melinda announced their decision to divorce. The Gates said that in 27 years of marriage, they have raised three wonderful children and created a charitable foundation that works around the world. The couple met in 1987 when Melinda came to work at Microsoft. They married in 1994 in Hawaii. Gates is one of the five richest businessmen, his family’s fortune is estimated at $ 130 billion.
