The death toll in the collapse of a building in Miami has reached five people

The death toll from the partial collapse of a building in Miami has reached five people, the mayor of Miami-Dade County, Daniella Lavin Cava, said at a briefing.

“Today, our search and rescue team found another body under the rubble. Our group also found human remains,” Cava said.

According to her, to determine the identity of the victims, experts use DNA samples provided by family members of people whose location remains unknown.

The mayor said that the fate of another 156 people remains unknown.

A multi-storey building partially collapsed in the town of Surfside, part of the Miami metropolitan area. The authorities reported that about half of the 130 apartments located in it were destroyed. More than 80 rescue teams went to the scene of the incident.
