The death toll from the collapse of a building in Florida has reached 12

President Biden and the First Lady plan to visit the Surfside where the collapse occurred on Thursday.

Search and rescue teams have confirmed the death of another person, the 12th in a row, as a result of the partial collapse of an apartment building in Surfside, Florida.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine-Cava told reporters that rescuers “continue to go forward,” while 149 people are still missing.

About half of the 12-storey building collapsed last Thursday, and since then rescuers have been slowly making their way through the rubble, using cranes, infrared scanners, and dogs.

Levine-Cava said that rescuers continue to perform “a brave and very difficult task, putting them in danger.” US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are scheduled to visit Surfside on Thursday.
