The Chinese Foreign Ministry accused the United States of blatant interference in the affairs of Hong Kong

US President Joe Biden previously signed a memorandum that allows some immigrants from Hong Kong to extend their stay on American territory.

The Chinese side strongly condemns the memorandum adopted in Washington concerning Hong Kong and regards it as undisguised interference in its internal affairs. This is stated in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissariat of the Chinese Foreign Ministry in this special administrative region.

“This is blatant interference in the affairs of Hong Kong and the internal affairs of China, a gross violation of the norms of international law,” the ministry said.

The statement notes that the adoption of the National Security Law “restored stability in Hong Kong, strengthened the rule of law, and ensured the legitimate rights and interests of residents.” The commissariat stressed that this law is aimed only “against a small handful of anti-Chinese rioters” who threaten national security; 117 people were detained for violating it.

“The pathetic behavior of the United States is “not at all caring” about Hong Kong and its people, but gross interference in its affairs and support for a small handful of forces of “anti-Chinese chaos,” the statement says. “The Chinese government is unwavering in its determination to counteract the interference of external forces in the affairs of Hong Kong and the People’s Republic of China, to protect the country’s sovereignty, security and development interests, as well as to pursue a policy of “one country – two systems,” the Foreign Ministry’s commissariat said.
