The state will not require gun owners to have a license or pass background checks.
The governor of Texas signed a law allowing people to carry firearms without a permit and a background check.
Greg Abbott is scheduled to highlight the law at a ceremony on Thursday.
The law, which comes into force on September 1, can be used by any person who does not have a criminal record for serious crimes or other legal obstacles to the possession of weapons.
Federal checks for some gun buyers remain in place, and individual businesses may impose bans on carrying guns on their territory.
