The maximum speed of the Model S Plaid exceeds 320 km per hour.
The American company Tesla demonstrated on Thursday in the city of Fremont (California) its new electric car Model S Plaid. The presentation, which was led by the head of Tesla Elon Musk, was broadcast on the company’s website.
As the entrepreneur noted, critics previously focused on the fact that the updated version of the Model S car will be “insanely fast,” and expressed doubts about the need to produce such cars. According to Musk, the development of the Model S Plaid was “quite important for the future of sustainable energy.”
“We had to show that electric cars are unquestionably the best cars,” the businessman said.
Tesla claims that the Model S Plaid is the fastest mass-produced car. “The Model S Plaid is a car that is faster than any sports car, faster than any Porsche, and at the same time safer than any Volvo,” Musk said. According to him, the Model S Plaid can accelerate to 96.5 km per hour in less than two seconds. The maximum speed of the electric car exceeds 320 km per hour. The car can travel more than 620 km without recharging. The cost of the Model S Plaid is about $130 thousand.
Musk noted that 25 Model S Plaid cars are already being delivered to customers. Within a week, it is planned to deliver several hundred more of these machines.
Tesla was founded by Musk in 2003. The company’s headquarters are located in the American city of Palo Alto (California). At first, the company specialized exclusively in the production of electric vehicles, but later it also became engaged in the creation of solar panels and other energy storage systems.
