Tesla designs giant battery to rescue frozen Texas

Tesla is developing a huge battery connected to the power grid of the American state of Texas, Bloomberg reports.

The 100-megawatt energy storage project is being carried out by Tesla’s subsidiary Gambit Energy Storage, based in Angleton, Texas.

According to the newspaper, a giant battery in the summer energy peak can provide electricity to about 20 thousand homes.

The battery storage system, created by Tesla’s subsidiary, is registered with Texas’s Electric Reliability Council (ERCOT).

Warren Lasher, Senior Director of Systems Planning at ERCOT, clarified that the start of the project’s commercial operation is scheduled for June 1.

Snowstorms in February triggered massive power and water cuts in Texas, as well as food queues, rising gas prices and many other inconveniences for millions of people. Dozens of Texas residents died, and more than four million people were left without electricity.
