The US may start issuing licenses to US companies to resume trading with Chinese Huawei in the next two-four weeks.
Two American chip manufacturers who worked with Huawei before the introduction of restrictions on the company said that in the near future they are going to apply to the US authorities for licenses.
At the moment, American companies can sell to Huawei only the equipment necessary to maintain the operation of existing networks or provide updates to the software. To sell new Huawei products to American contractors, a special license is required.
In late June, US President Donald Trump after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 summit in Japan has decided to allow American companies to sell Huawei equipment if it does not threaten the national security of the United States. Then the US Department of Commerce clarified that Trump’s decision does not mean the exclusion of the Chinese company from their blacklist.
The US Department of Commerce put Huawei on its blacklist in May after Trump announced in the country the introduction of an emergency due to threats to the national security of the United States. The decision came after the failure of the next trade talks between Washington and Beijing. The restrictions imposed by the United States mean that to work with a Chinese company; American firms need to obtain permission from the authorities. However, there are no criteria for granting or denying such permits.
