Yoshihide Suga was elected Prime Minister of Japan on Wednesday, becoming the country’s first new leader in nearly eight years.

Suga, who served as chief Cabinet secretary under outgoing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, was elected to the lower house of Parliament, where his ruling liberal democratic party has a majority.
It will have to solve several problems, including the recovery of the economy affected by the COVID-19 crisis.
