At the same time, the Secretary-General of the Alliance called for restraint and de-escalation.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Monday that all members of the Alliance support the United States in the Middle East on the issue of the American-led airstrike that killed Iranian General Qasem Suleimani.
Speaking after a meeting devoted to Iraq and Iran, during which the US reported to allies about the drone attack carried out last Friday, Stoltenberg also called for a de-escalation of tensions. Some European leaders spoke in the same vein.
“We unanimously condemn the fact that Iran supports various terrorist groups,” Stoltenberg said. – During today’s meeting, the allies called for restraint and de-escalation. A new conflict is not in anyone’s interest. Therefore, Iran must refrain from further violence and provocations.”
