Stanley Cup winner of the 2010/2011 season Johnny Boychuk retires

New York Islanders defender Johnny Boychuk has announced his retirement, according to the Islanders’ official page.

The reason for this decision was an eye injury that the hockey player received on March 4, 2020, in a match with the Montreal Canadiens. Then they put 90 stitches on his eyelid.

Boychuk is now 36 years old. In addition to the Islanders, he played for the Colorado Avalanche and the Boston Bruins.

Boychuck was drafted in 2002 by Colorado in the second round at 61st overall.

In the NHL, the defender took part in 725 games, in which he scored 54 goals and gave 152 assists with a “+123” rating and 331 minutes of penalty time. In the 2010/2011 season, he won the Stanley Cup with Boston.
