The American company Space Perspective is preparing to launch tourist flights into the Earth’s stratosphere. Already now, those who wish can book a seat on the Neptune spacecraft, which is a sealed capsule that is lifted to a height of about 30 km by a huge balloon. The ship accommodates eight passengers and a pilot, and the cost of one seat on it is $125,000.
Space tourists will spend about six hours onboard the capsule, during which they will be able to admire the stunning views of our planet against the backdrop of the darkness of outer space. Space Perspective said that the company’s customers will be able to experience a great experience without overloading. Since the capsule is lifted by the balloon, the entire flight will be smooth. Among other things, the Neptune ship has comfortable chairs, panoramic windows, a snack bar and even a bathroom.
According to available data, commercial flights of the Neptune spacecraft are scheduled to begin by the end of 2024. The company took a big step towards that goal last week with the first test flight of the Neptune capsule.
The spacecraft, together with a huge balloon, took off from the site of the Space Center. Kennedy in Florida. Space Perspective tested a full-size prototype of the Neptune spacecraft without a crew on board, which managed to ascend to an altitude of more than 33 km and after 6 hours 39 minutes from the start of the flight successfully splashed down in the Gulf of Mexico. In the future, the company intends to continue test flights in order to work out the flight technology before the first tourists leave for the stratosphere.
