Sony, as promised, held an online presentation today, which showed the flagship smartphones Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III.
The new items look very similar to the previous generation of devices and differ in some parameters. The Xperia 1 III features a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display with Gorilla Glass Victus, while the Xperia 5 III features a 6.1-inch HDR FHD + OLED display with Gorilla Glass 6. The panels have a 21: 9 aspect ratio, clock rate refresh rate 120 Hz, sensor readout frequency 240 Hz and support for 10 bits. The devices also differ in different memory modifications: in the Xperia 1 III they installed 12/256 GB, and in the Xperia 5 III – 8/128 GB. Also, the older model has wireless and reversible charging.
New items are powered by a 5-nanometer Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with a built-in 5G modem. The Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III have IP65 / 68 water and dust resistance, 4500mAh batteries with 30W wired charging, NFC, side scanners, headphone jacks, and stereo speakers. By the way, Sony Music Entertainment specialists were responsible for their adjustment. The speakers can reproduce sound in 360 Reality Audio format, and also support 360 Spatial Sound technology.
Among the interesting things in the new products, it is worth highlighting the cameras. According to the manufacturer, engineers from the Sony Alpha division participated in their creation. Smartphones received an 8 MP front camera, as well as the main one with ZEISS optics. The main sensor has a resolution of 12 MP, f / 2.2 aperture and optical image stabilization. Next comes a 12MP wide-angle lens, a 3D ToF sensor (Xperia 1 III only), and a 12MP periscope module with optical zoom support up to 4.4x. It boasts of having an adjustable focal length between 70mm and 105mm. Both smartphones have a Photography Pro mode for manual camera control, autofocus for all lenses, and an AI super-resolution zoom function. It uses algorithms to improve the quality of the zoom.
New items are running under the Android 11 operating system.
The Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III will go on sale in early summer. The prices of new products will be announced a little later. We can say for sure that smartphones will cost more than $ 1000.
