Smoke from wildfires in the western United States reached New York

The content of harmful substances in the air is exceeded. The city authorities recommend that residents who suffer from asthma or have heart problems do not leave their homes.

New York was covered with smoke from forest fires raging on the West Coast of the United States – in the states of Oregon, Washington and California, more than 3 thousand kilometers from the largest American metropolis.

The smell of burning is felt in the city, a haze is noticeable; the sun has acquired a red hue. The content of harmful substances in the air is exceeded – the city authorities recommend that those New Yorkers who suffer from asthma or have heart problems do not leave the house at least during the day.

The National Weather Service confirmed that the cause of the smoke was fires in the western United States. Currently, there are 13 of them; the largest is in the state of Oregon. It continues from July 6, its area is over 1.5 thousand square kilometers.

Since the beginning of the year, as a result of wildfires of varying degrees in the United States, more than 1 million hectares of land have been burned. The most difficult situation is observed in the state of Montana, where 18 large foci were recorded. In Idaho, there are 17 large fires, in California and Oregon-9 each. Data on victims or dead have not yet been received.
