Analyst firm NPD Group estimates that spending by US gamers reached $ 4.6 billion in July this year, up 10% from a year earlier.
The content segment, which includes revenue from games for consoles, smartphones and PCs, as well as revenue from cloud gaming and subscription services, grew 6% to $ 4.1 billion.
The hardware segment, in turn, grew 98% to $ 323 million, while the accessories segment grew 11% to $ 189 million.
The best-selling console in pieces was the Nintendo Switch, and the PlayStation 5 was in the lead in dollars. The Joy-Con, based on the remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, turned out to be the best-selling accessory.
The best-selling game itself was the remaster of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Two other new releases for July, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and Neo: The World Ends With You, came in at # 3 and # 16, respectively.
