Siri will be able to work without an Internet connection and will be available on third-party devices

At the opening of the WWDC 2021 developer conference, Apple introduced not only the operating systems iOS 15, iPadOS 15, watchOS 8, macOS 12 Monterey and the iCloud+ service, but also talked about the new features of the Siri virtual assistant.

Standalone Siri

First, the assistant will be able to work without a network connection, that is, autonomously. Of course, some functions in this case will not be available – for example, you will not be able to find something in the browser or find out the weather forecast. But with the help of Siri, you can control music playback, launch applications, set a timer and alarm, etc.

This feature is available in iOS 15, but not all devices will receive it, but only models with an Apple A12 processor or newer chips. It:

  • iPhone XS, XS Max and XR
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
  • second generation iPhone SE
  • iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max
  • iPad Mini 5th generation
  • iPad Air 3rd and 4th generation
  • 8th generation iPad
  • iPad Pro (2018) and newer

Now on third-party devices

Second, Siri will soon receive support for third-party devices. HomeKit accessory makers will be able to integrate Siri voice control into their products, after which Siri will send commands through the HomePod if the devices are connected to the user’s network.

The innovation will become available by the end of this year.
