Simone Biles refused to participate in the individual all-around at the Olympics

The four-time Olympic champion in gymnastics, American Simone Biles, refused to participate in the individual all-around at the Tokyo Games, according to the page of the USA Gymnastics Federation on Twitter.

Biles withdrew from the group all-around competition in Tokyo on Tuesday. Medals in the individual all-around will be awarded on Thursday.

This decision was made after a medical examination for the 24-year-old athlete to focus on mental health. In the individual all-around, Biles will replace Jade Carey. It is still unknown whether Biles will be able to compete in individual sports.

Initially, it was reported that Biles was unable to continue the team competitions for medical reasons, but after the athlete said that she did not have an injury. According to the 19-time world champion, she did not want to continue competing because of “a small damage to her pride” after an unsuccessful support jump.
