Shooting at a school in Colorado: a teenager killed, seven people injured

One teenager killed and seven wounded at a school in the US state of Colorado, where two people opened fire with a firearm.

The tragedy occurred on Tuesday at the scientific and technical school STEM in the town of Highlands Ranch near the city of Denver, police said. Both assailants have been arrested.

Highlands Ranch is just eight kilometers from Columbine school, which 20 years ago was one of the bloodiest such incidents in American history.
Shooting at a school in Colorado, according to some estimates, is the 115th such incident in the US in 2019.

What did happen?

“About two o’clock in the afternoon local time, two people entered the school, went deep into its territory and opened fire on students in two different places,” — said the Sheriff of Douglas County Tony Spurlock.

Two suspects were arrested in the attack. It is reported that both of them studied at this school.

According to the Sheriff, the school immediately contacted the police. The police arrived at the scene about two minutes after the call.
The 18-year-old teenager died. The gun was found at the crime scene.

“We have no information about those who were shot,” said Spurlock, adding that it is too early to draw any conclusions.

One of the parents, whom the local press calls by name – Fernando Montoya — said that his 17-year-old son received three gunshot wounds.
“He said the guy pulled a gun out of a guitar case and started shooting,” he told Denver 7.
