“Sherlock” and “Black Mirror” director to tackle “Rogue One” prequel about Cassian Andor

Earlier it was reported that the series about Cassian Andor will be written and directed by Tony Gilroy, the scriptwriter of Rogue One. But the coronavirus pandemic has changed those plans. The director lives in New York and cannot come to the shooting, which is taking place in the UK. Therefore, for at least the first three episodes, Toby Haynes will take the director’s chair. Haynes previously directed an episode of Sherlock and Black Mirror and five episodes of Doctor Who. He also directed the film Brexit, starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Diego Luna will return to the role of Cassian Andor in the series. Alan Tudyk will again voice the K-2SO droid. In addition, the series will star Stellan Skarsgard, Kyle Soller, and Adria Arjona. The name of the new series, its plot, and the premiere date is still unknown. Insiders report that it will be a spy thriller set in the Star Wars universe that will tell the backstory of Andor. The premiere is promised next year.

Currently, the Star Wars universe is also working on the third season of The Mandalorian and the Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries starring Ewan McGregor.
