Scientists have discovered a flower that will help treat COVID-19

The plant Nigella sativa, which grows in North Africa and Western Asia, can be used to treat COVID-19 in the future, writes the journal Clinical and Experimental Pharmacology and Physiology.

It is noted that it contains thymoquinone, which can bind to the S-protein of the coronavirus and prevent the development of a lung infection.

“This substance is also able to block the “cytokine storm” that occurs in seriously ill patients hospitalized with COVID-19,” said the lead author of the study, professor of the Australian Catholic University (ACU) Kaneez Fatima Shad.

Experts have also identified other useful properties of thymoquinone. In particular, it helps in the treatment of hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes mellitus. In addition, Nigella sativa has shown its effectiveness in destroying Staphylococcus aureus.

This plant also helps patients with allergic rhinitis and sinusitis, eczema, and osteoarthritis as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Australian scientists have discovered that some peoples have been using Nigella sativa seeds for centuries as a traditional remedy for various diseases, including inflammation and infections.
