Sanders says the US should unite Israelis and Palestinians

A series of recent attacks led to the death of 64 children and the destruction of much of the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, said the senator from Vermont.

The United States should work with the international community to unite Israelis and Palestinians, not to supply weapons to Israel. This opinion was expressed by Senator from Vermont Bernie Sanders in an interview with CBS, aired on Sunday.

“The United States should be the world’s leader in bringing people together, not just supplying weapons to kill children in the Gaza Strip. A series of recent attacks have resulted in the deaths of 64 children and the destruction of much of the infrastructure of the enclave, which is already one of the most uninhabitable areas,” Sanders said.

“Our task is not just to provide Israel with more and more military support,” the senator said. “Our task is to bring people together, we can’t do it alone, and we need the international community.” Bernie Sanders introduced a resolution on Thursday that opposes the sale of $735 million in precision weapons to Israel. The document is not binding. The US administration notified Congress of the arms deal on May 5, a few days before the start of the exchange of missile strikes between the Israeli army and Palestinian groups. At the same time, Democrats and Republicans on the foreign affairs committees of both houses of the legislature supported the deal.
