Samsung patented a smartphone-book with a transparent section

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted Samsung a patent for a “Foldable display device”. This uninformative name hides a curious smartphone equipped with a flexible screen.

As you can see in the illustrations, the South Korean giant is thinking about another device in the form factor of a book. The flexible display of the device will fold inside the case, which will help protect it from damage during daily wear.

In the upper area of one of the halves of the case, according to Samsung’s idea, there will be an oblong transparent area. When folded, a small part of the main flexible screen will be viewed through it.

Various notifications, messages from instant messengers, time, information about the battery charge level, etc. can be displayed in this zone. Thus, there will be no need to use an auxiliary external display.

However, while the original smartphone exists only in patent documentation. Samsung has not announced plans for its release.
