This year, only the Samsung Galaxy S21 smartphone from the flagship S21 series has a plastic case, for which it received a lot of criticism since glass is considered a more premium (and expensive) material. But now there are rumors that there will be even more plastic flagships coming next year.
Sources say that in 2022 only the older model Galaxy S22 Ultra will be equipped with a glass panel, while the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 + may switch to “reinforced polycarbonate”. Of course, it is not as fragile as glass, but not everyone is willing to pay a large sum for a plastic flagship. On the other hand, the use of a polycarbonate back panel can reduce the cost of new products.
In addition, such a solution will further distinguish the premium Galaxy S22 Ultra against the background of its brothers. In general, it was so this year: only the Galaxy S21 Ultra can boast of stylus support.
The source emphasizes that Samsung has not yet made a final decision on the use of plastic in the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 +, so at least the Galaxy S22 + can still be left with Gorilla Glass.
