Samsung Galaxy S22 flagships won’t get ToF sensor

It seems that following the large number of megapixels, Samsung has decided to abandon the ToF sensor as well. At least, this information is reported by the Korean edition of ET News.

Recall that ToF (Time of Flight) is a 3D sensor that measures the distance to objects to create a depth map. Among other things, it is used to separate the subject from the background in portrait shots.

Cameras with this sensor have received the flagship Galaxy S10 5G and S20 Ultra. But the Galaxy Note20 Ultra lost it: the manufacturer replaced ToF with a simple laser autofocus system. And, as it turned out, this did not negatively affect the use – users found the laser system good enough.

Samsung has thought about bringing the ToF sensor back after Apple included it in the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, according to insiders. But on reflection, Samsung gave up on the idea. Therefore, according to the report, the flagships of 2022 Galaxy S22 will also be deprived of the module.
