Russia and the United States agreed to fight terrorism together

Moscow and Washington have agreed to hold an annual high-level dialogue on countering terrorism. This was reported in the press service of the US State Department.

The statement was issued after talks between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov and US first Deputy Secretary of state John Sullivan, which took place in Vienna. It is noted that in the coming months, Russian and American experts in the field of counter-terrorism will meet to consider a possible increase in cooperation.

In particular, the parties discussed trends in the movement of foreign fighters. Sullivan noted the need to repatriate and re-educate the militants by the countries of which they are citizens, the State Department said in a statement.

In February, Russia said it felt as if the United States had lost interest in international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. The Russian Foreign Ministry concluded, “instead of countering real challenges, Washington prefers fictional threats, setting up its public for confrontation with States that are not going to cause any harm to the Americans.”
