Rumors: Tom Cruise may play alternative Tony Stark in Doctor Strange II

Any Marvel fan knows that the cinematic universe began with Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. The film became one of the most important blockbusters in world cinema and served as a launching pad for what quickly became the most profitable and popular franchise that Hollywood has ever seen.

Now, it would seem, the story of Tony Stark is over, because he saved the world at the cost of his own life in Avengers: Endgame, but talk about his return went almost immediately after the release of the tape. It is not known whether fans will get to see Downey Jr. in this role again, but it is quite possible that the audience will meet with another version of the character.

The day before, it was rumored on the Web that Kevin Feige was considering Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness as the perfect opportunity to refresh the Marvel Cinematic Universe and attract a new actor who will play a brilliant billionaire. Of course, we are talking about an alternative version of the hero and a different timeline.

According to Daniel Richtman, Marvel wants Tom Cruise to play Tony Stark from the multiverse, and that would definitely shut down the gestalt, since the star of the Mission: Impossible franchise nearly landed the role of Iron Man back in 1998. Richtman says the studio “is developing a number of interesting episodes for Strange to represent different versions of the characters we know.” One of the examples given by an insider is just Tom Cruise as Tony Stark from another Earth.

Of course, the rumor may not be confirmed, but in general, if Tom Cruise becomes an alternative Iron Man, the alignment turns out to be good. Plus, do not forget that in any case, this will only be a cameo role.

Now it only remains to wait for news from Marvel and the actor himself – they probably will not keep you waiting. Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness is set to premiere in the spring of 2022.
