Juventus and Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo became the only footballer to have played over a thousand matches in the 21st century, according to the website of the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
The 36-year-old Portuguese has 1,047 matches. In second place is former Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who has 974 matches in the 21st century. Simultaneously, in terms of the total number of matches in his career, Casillas played one match more than Ronaldo – 1,048 against 1,047.
In third place in the ranking is Sao Paulo defender Dani Alves, who has 969 games.
