Rihanna has apologized to the Muslim community for a song containing excerpts from Islamic scriptures that were broadcast on her lingerie show. Rihanna called it a “careless mistake.”
Using this song in our project was completely irresponsible!
– the singer admitted in a written statement that appeared on her Instagram stories. She added that she “will make sure nothing like this ever happens again.”
There was a moment in Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty runway where models danced to Coucou Chloe’s “Doom” song. This 2017 track includes an excerpt from the Hadith, the legend about the words and actions of the Prophet Muhammad, which for Muslims has significant authority.
I want to thank the Muslim community for pointing out a huge oversight that looked unintentionally offensive on our Savage x Fenty show. I would like to apologize to you for this careless mistake. We realize that we may have hurt many of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and I am simply discouraged by this! I did not show disrespect for God or any religion. Using this song in our project was completely irresponsible! We will make sure that nothing like this ever happens again. Thanks for your forgiveness and understanding,
