The former head of the US government’s vaccine program, Rick Bright, predicted that the US might have to face “the most severe winter in modern history” due to the coronavirus pandemic. BBC News reported.
During a speech to the US Congress, he said that because of the government’s inaction in the early stages of the epidemic, “many lives were lost,” and predicted even more significant problems in the country.
He also said that back in January, he raised the issue of the lack of medical equipment at the highest level in the Ministry of Health and Human Services, but “did not receive any response.”
Earlier, US President Donald Trump removed a specialist who was responsible for developing a coronavirus vaccine from a high post in the health sector. Bright, in turn, said that the head of state did this in retaliation for criticism of his methods of fighting the virus.
According to the latest data, there are more than 1.4 million cases of coronavirus infection in the United States. In total, more than 85 thousand people died in the country as a result of the pandemic.
