Republicans call for the resignation of the head of the WHO

A group of lawmakers urges Trump not to allocate funding to the organization until Gebreyesus resigns.

US Republican lawmakers are calling on President Donald Trump not to allocate funding to the world health organization until its CEO resigns.

Seventeen Republicans from the House Foreign Affairs Committee sent a letter to Trump, expressing support for his decision to suspend funding for WHO and recommending that the issue of resuming funding be linked to the resignation of the organization’s head, Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus.

In their letter, the congressmen stress that they have lost confidence in Gebreyesus, and blame the scale of the international health crisis on WHO and the Chinese Communist Party, although they note the “important role” of WHO in the world.
