Rapper DMX ends up in hospital with a heart attack

American rapper and actor Earl Simmons, known as DMX, was admitted to the hospital after a heart attack. He is in intensive care in serious condition.

He was rushed to White Plains Hospital in New York State late Friday night, his lawyer Murray Richman said. Next to him in the hospital are his first wife and some of his 15 children.

Simmons was at first on a life support apparatus, the lawyer clarified, but now he has already been disconnected from him, and he breathes on his own while the musician has low brain activity.

Doctors told the family that the half-hour lack of oxygen he underwent during resuscitation had a profound effect on his brain.

The publication TMZ, citing sources, reported that DMX was hospitalized after a drug overdose that led to the seizure. Still, Richman did not confirm this information and said that he did not know anything about it.

The 50-year-old Simmons is known to have struggled with his substance abuse for several years and has repeatedly undergone rehabilitation courses, most recently in 2019 after serving a year for tax evasion, TMZ reported.

Then he even cancelled several concerts to take the course. “In his constant drive to put family and sobriety first, DMX signed up for a rehab centre. He apologizes for the cancelled concerts and thanks his fans for their continued support, ” the rapper said in a statement at the time.

DMX had previously talked about his addiction to crack cocaine, which he says began when he was 14 years old. In 2013, he told American TV presenter Phil McGraw that he would “always be a drug addict until he dies,” but two years later announced that he “gave up cocaine” to focus on raising children.

Simmons returned to the stage from rehab in December 2019, performing in Las Vegas. His last public appearance was in July 2020, when he met Snoop Dogg in the Verzuz rap battle.

In 2018, DMX made headlines after performing one of his songs in court, where he was charged with $ 1.7 million in tax fraud. After listening to the song, the judge said that DMX was a “good man” and sentenced him to a year in prison.

In the past, Simmons has served a prison sentence on charges of cruelty to animals, traffic violations, possession of drugs and weapons. Considered a 1990s hip-hop icon, Simmons has collaborated with artists such as Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Eve and LL Cool J and starred in films. In more than 20 years of creative activity, DMX has released seven albums and was nominated for a Grammy three times. In the US, his first five albums, including his 1998 debut “It’s Dark, and Hell Is Hot,” reached # 1.
