Qualcomm processor for premium smartphones announced

Qualcomm Technologies has announced an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 888 processor, which will form the basis of premium smartphones.

The new chip received two fundamental improvements over the previous version:

  • the maximum clock frequency increased to 3 GHz,
  • the Qualcomm Hexagon 780 AI processor, which is required for the operation of the artificial intelligence module, has become 20% more powerful.

The first manufacturers to use the Snapdragon 888 Plus will be ASUS, Honor, Motorola, Vivo, and Xiaomi.

The rest of the characteristics do little to distinguish the new chip from the original Snapdragon 888. The platform is equipped with an Adreno 660 GPU, a Snapdragon X60 5G modem, and an ARM Cortex-X1 core.

The first smartphones, which will receive an updated single-chip platform, will be released in the third quarter of 2021.
