Joint work between Washington and Moscow on space exploration is “an area in which we have historically worked together with the Russians,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said, commenting on Russia’s possible withdrawal from the International Space Station program in connection with US sanctions.
The journalist asked Psaki to comment on the warning of the head of Roscosmos about the possible withdrawal of Russia from the ISS project if the United States does not lift sanctions against two Russian companies associated with the maintenance of the station.
Psaki said she “doesn’t know much about this issue” and said she would have to talk to the president’s national security team about it. “I think that working together on issues related to space is an area in which we have historically worked together with the Russians. And I need to understand why these sanctions are needed,” Psaki said, promising to clarify this issue with administration officials dealing with national security issues.
