Pope congratulates Biden on election

Biden’s transition team spoke about his phone conversation with the Pontiff.

Pope Francis congratulated Joe Biden on his expected victory in the US presidential election and blessed him, Biden’s transition team said after their phone conversation.

“The President-elect thanked His Holiness for his blessings and congratulations and expressed his gratitude to His Holiness for his leadership role in promoting peace, reconciliation and humanitarian ties around the world,” the transition team said in a statement.

Biden also expressed a desire to work with the Pontiff on caring for the marginalized and poor, overcoming the climate crisis, and integrating immigrants.

Biden is the second Catholic elected President of the United States. The first was Democrat John F. Kennedy in 1960.
