Pompeo is considering a plan to extend the arms embargo against Iran

US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo is working on a plan to extend the arms embargo against Iran or renew tough sanctions. This is reported by the New York Times, citing sources.

According to the newspaper, the US authorities plan to follow this plan if the UN Security Council does not allow the extension of the arms embargo against the Iranian government.

The source notes that Russia and China may veto the resumption of the embargo. In turn, Washington will recall its formal participation in the agreement on the Joint comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA), and then accuse Iran of violating the agreement. After that, the US authorities plan to resume stricter sanctions against Tehran.

“We are ready to use all our diplomatic capabilities to ensure that the arms embargo remains in the UN Security Council,” the source said.
