US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo met with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias in Thessaloniki, Greece, on Monday, the state Department press service reported.
According to the official statement, Pompeo and Dendias discussed strong bilateral relations between the United States and Greece, deepening scientific and technical ties, and close cooperation on energy and infrastructure projects.
Pompeo noted the important regional role of Thessaloniki as a gateway to the Balkans and hailed Greece’s leadership in promoting transatlantic and European Integration of the Western Balkans.
Two diplomats noted the historical significance of North Macedonia’s entry into NATO. They also agreed on the need for a peaceful resolution of any disputes in the Eastern Mediterranean by international law. The Secretary of State welcomed all efforts to reduce tensions and return to dialogue.
