US Secretary of state Michael Pompeo called the Communist Party of China (CPC) “the central threat of the modern era,” which Washington “helped other countries realize.”
“We objectively look at the Chinese Communist Party as the Central threat of the modern era,” Free News reports, referring to the Ukrainian media.
Pompeo also noted that American diplomacy “helped the international community realize the threat of the CPC.”
“No administration, neither Republicans nor Democrats, has been as aggressive in countering China’s hostile actions as the administration of President Donald Trump,” the Secretary of state said.
At the same time, he said, Washington imposed sanctions “against the Chinese leadership,” as well as companies from China, terminated the special status for Hong Kong, and “closed the Consulate in Houston, because it was a den of spies.”9
So, as part of the counteraction to China, the State Department requests 1.49 billion dollars for 2021 to help the countries of the Indo-Pacific region, “that is an increase of 20% compared to the budget request for 2020.”
“We want this region of the world to be free, open, and prosperous,” Pompeo added.
