The Joe Biden administration policy towards China will lead to a weakening of the American economy and give an advantage to Beijing, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during a speech at the annual conference of conservative political forces in Orlando, Florida.
He noted that the termination of the construction of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada to the United States “destroyed” ten thousand jobs. The diplomat doubted that the authorities would fulfill their promise to employ dismissed employees at enterprises that produce solar batteries.
“You can be sure that cheap solar panels from China will flood into America like never before. It won’t do the United States any good,” he was quoted as saying by Politico.
Pompeo also criticized Biden’s decision to resume U.S. participation in the Paris Climate Agreement. According to him, Beijing is “pleased” with this step, as the US economy will suffer losses from the new obligations.
In January, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying called Pompeo a “clown.” The statement came after the diplomat said about the genocide of Uighurs in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. According to Beijing, with these words, Pompeo “made himself a clown and a laughing stock for the whole world.”
