Pompeo accused Beijing of seeking to destroy the American way of life

US leader Donald Trump has ordered to develop of a list of retaliatory measures, the US Secretary of state said.

US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo believes that China seeks to destroy the American way of life and undermine American democracy.

“The Chinese Communist party poses a special challenge to the United States,” he said Thursday in an interview with the Paul Smith Show radio program in Detroit, Michigan. – This is a country that is under the leadership of [the President of the people’s Republic of China] XI Jinping wants, quite frankly, to destroy our way of life, the democracy that we rely on, everything that the people of Michigan hold so dear. For a long time, we have allowed them to act unfairly towards us.”

“US President Donald Trump has ordered to develop a list of response measures in accordance with which we would be treated fairly, and that we proceed from the fact that we will not be deceived, and that we will not allow them to steal our intellectual property,” Pompeo said. “We have made progress, but there is still much to do,” he added. “It’s been 40 years since US presidents were prepared to protect Americans and American industry, and we are determined to do so.”

“We will have a transport link with China,” the Secretary of State added, answering a question about when the connection can be restored. “But the point is that they should respect America and treat people from the States of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and my home state of Kansas fairly and reasonably.”
