Police removed the cordon from Times Square in New York

Traffic has been restored in this area.

A suspicious object left on Thursday by an unknown person in the central square of New York Times Square does not pose a threat; the cordon has been lifted.

“The square is open, everything is clean,” a law enforcement officer on the spot confirmed.

As one of the eyewitnesses told, there was no panic; people were curious.

“Special forces with dogs came up. Everyone was interested in what was happening, taking pictures. One policeman said that the situation is very serious,” the source said.

Currently, people have reappeared on the square, the adjacent cafes have opened summer terraces. Traffic has been restored, and only a few police cars are on the spot. It took about an hour for the guards to check the suspicious metal container.
