American mixed martial artist (MMA) Dustin Poirier turned down the title fight for a third fight with Irishman Conor McGregor. Journalist Aaron Bronsteter announced this on his Twitter.
The head of the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC), Dana White, told the reporter about this. Poirier, 32, has turned down an opportunity to win the lightweight title and aims for a third bout with the Irishman.
The exact date of the fight has not yet been received. According to journalist Ariel Helvani, McGregor and Poirier may fight in July.
The second fight between McGregor and Poirier took place in January. The American managed to knock out his opponent. Thus, he took revenge on McGregor for the defeat in 2014.
Poirier has already fought for the title in the fall of 2019. Then he failed to defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov. In March 2021, the Russian left the belt and officially retired.
