Pfizer says its coronavirus vaccine is 95% effective

In a few days, the company will apply with US regulators.

Pharmaceutical company Pfizer said Wednesday that its coronavirus vaccine is 95 percent effective and does not cause serious side effects.

Pfizer provided updated results after the final analysis of phase 3 clinical trials, which also showed that the vaccine protects older people most at risk of death from COVID-19.

In a few days, the American pharmaceutical giant plans to submit an official application to register the vaccine in the United States.

Pfizer has not yet published detailed information about the trials, and independent experts have not reviewed the results.

Pfizer and German biotech company BioNTech plan to produce up to 50 million doses worldwide this year and up to 1.3 billion in 2021.

Pfizer will also present the test results to other regulatory authorities around the world.

Earlier this week, biotech company Moderna said its experimental vaccine was 94.5 percent effective.
