Pentagon chief: China is the most dangerous potential enemy of the United States

According to Mark Esper, the list of rivals that threaten the West also includes Russia, rogue states, and extremist organizations.

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that China is at the top of the list of the most formidable potential opponents of the Pentagon. Speaking at the Munich security conference, Esper said that China is the greatest threat to the West, surpassing other adversaries-Russia, “rogue states,” including North Korea and Iran, as well as extremist groups.

“In fact, under the rule of President Xi, the Chinese Communist Party is moving faster and further in the wrong direction. More internal repression, more predatory economic practices, more power dominance and, what worries me in particular, a more aggressive military doctrine,” Esper said.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who also attended the Munich conference, called the US accusations against China “false.”

“The root cause of all these problems and questions is that the US does not want to see China’s rapid development and modernization, and least of all it wants to accept the success of a socialist country,” Wang Yi said.
