The speaker of the House of Representatives commented on the first public testimony in the investigation of impeachment.
President Donald Trump tried to bribe Ukraine by withholding military aid until Kyiv promises to investigate his political rival, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said.
The statement was made after receiving, in her words, “devastating testimony” against Trump during the first public hearings in the impeachment investigation.
According to Pelosi, the testimony of two witnesses who spoke on Wednesday, are incriminating, because they confirm that Trump’s actions against Ukraine were an attempt to bribe.
Judging by these comments, Democrats believe that the testimony received is convincing enough to support their argument that Trump abused his official powers to promote his political interests.
“The devastating testimony reinforces the evidence of bribery uncovered during the investigation,” Pelosi said.
