Passenger tried to hijack the plane and demanded to deploy it to the Arab countries

Law enforcement agencies of Iran foiled an Iran Air passenger attempt to hijack a plane during an air flight, The Daily Mail reports.

The incident occurred Thursday evening, March 4, on board a medium-range passenger airliner Fokker 100 en route from the southwestern city of Ahvaz to northwestern Mashhad.

According to the newspaper, the traveller, whose name was not disclosed, attempted to steal the aircraft and demanded to turn it to the “southern shores of the Persian Gulf” – in the direction of the Arab countries: Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The crew subsequently decided to make an emergency landing in Isfahan. The intruder was apprehended. No one was injured due to the incident, and the passengers were taken to their destination by a backup flight.

On December 19, 2019, it was reported that a juvenile resident attempted to hijack a private plane. According to police, the teen climbed over the air harbour fence, snuck onto a propeller-powered King Air 200 and started one of the engines.
