Oscar organizers did not allow Anthony Hopkins to accept Zoom award

The 93rd Academy Awards ceremony took place the other day. This year it was held in the traditional format. However, not all stars were able to attend and receive their cherished statuettes. For example, the Best Actor Award was pushed back to the show’s finale to honor Chadwick Boseman, who was nominated for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, and to present him with an Oscar posthumously. However, unexpectedly for many, Anthony Hopkins received the award for the film “The Father”.

The actor was unable to attend the ceremony, as he was in his native Wales, where it was early morning during the award ceremony. Hopkins was sleeping peacefully in his house at this time. His agent informed him of the victory. As a result, the celebrity did not receive his award on time. But he was not allowed to receive it through Zoom, as this is not provided for by the Oscar rules. The Academy established special international centers for all nominees, where they could give thanksgiving speeches after receiving the award.

However, Hopkins’ representatives noted that the 83-year-old actor “has no desire to travel to centers in London or Dublin,” and therefore asked to be allowed Zoom. As a result, “The Silence of the Lambs” star gave his speech in the open air and posted a video of it on his microblog on Instagram.
