After the announcement of the merger between OnePlus and OPPO, the life of OnePlus continues to change, although this is not surprising. This time, the company announced innovations regarding the OxygenOS shell and support for smartphones.
So, OnePlus is merging its proprietary OxygenOS skin with OPPO’s ColorOS. But for users, nothing will change, because the skins will continue to exist separately from each other: OxygenOS will continue to be used for OnePlus phones around the world, ColorOS for OnePlus, and OPPO devices in China.
But they will share a common codebase, which OnePlus says should standardize its software experience and streamline the development process for future OxygenOS updates.
In addition, OnePlus, following the example of Samsung, decided to extend support for smartphones. The new graph looks like this:
- Flagships, including the T and R models, will receive three major Android updates and four years of security updates.
- The Nord and Nord CE models will receive two major Android updates and three years of security updates.
- Nord N budget users will receive one major Android update and three years of security updates.
But this applies to smartphones OnePlus 8 and up, so older devices are out of luck.
